Our Town of Chemainus (1 minute from Eagle Rock)
Chemainus is now Canada’s largest permanent outdoor art gallery. Much of downtown is covered with murals, most dealing with the areas history. Take in a walking or horse and carriage tour! You’ll never experience history quite like this again.
Each year hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world travel to Vancouver Island British Columbia to take in this unique town with its professional wall murals and numerous other attractions.
In 1983, it won the prestigious New York Downtown Revitalization Award for its redevelopment of the town core. It is a world-wide acclaim town for the integrity and superb artistry of its huge depictions of the town’s history with 41 and growing outdoor murals plus carvings and statues.
There is a lot more to see in Chemainus. We have the largest outdoor art gallery in Canada. live professional theatre, golf courses and one of the only 737 airplane artificial reefs for scuba diving. Chemainus, BC is located in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. It is a small, waterfront community popular for outdoor murals, performing arts and recreation.
The community is well known for two attractions – the Chemainus Murals and the Chemainus Theater; two venues which attract many to the community throughout the year.
Activities enjoyed in the community include boating, golfing, cycling, sailing, fishing, scuba diving, swimming, sight-seeing, sea kayaking, canoeing and hiking. Waterwheel Park is the main park in the community. It overlooks the harbor and provides some great marine views.
